Young Carers
What is a Young Carer?
A young carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 who helps look after and provides care for a family member with a long-term illness or disability.
At Romsey Primary & Nursery School we are proud to provide support for our young carers. We believe that by identifying young carers and recognising the challenges they face on a daily basis that we can offer appropriate assistance for them to talk to someone, share worries and access education.
Caring is not always about practical tasks alone. Children and young people take on extra caring responsibilities as well as offering significant emotional support which can have an impact on their own emotional development, social and school life.
But, at the same time, many young carers say it can be positive, too. They might value the closeness they have with the person they care for and feel resilient through meeting the challenges they have experienced.
If you would like to talk to someone to discuss this support or believe your child is a young carer then please contact us, or speak to Mrs Verity Tuck, our Young Carers Lead.
