Reading for Pleasure
Reading for Pleasure has been a significant part of everyday life for many, for numerous years. Research has shown the benefits for all (adults and children) are incredible. Most educational research now suggests that Reading for Pleasure is strongly linked to a child’s future outcomes, educational successes and even wellbeing. However, latest studies also show that Reading for Pleasure is at its lowest level for 20 years.
Here at Romsey Primary, we are striving to find ways to help to change this. We will be inviting the Book Fair back into our school again, take part in World Book Day and introduce lots of new books into our Library using fundraising from the previous world book day and Book Fair!
Another way we are supporting children with the enjoyment of reading is by our BOOKFLIX card scheme. In school, every time a child is either: seen reading a book; talking about their book to their friends or adults; sharing a book; reading with another child; recommending books to others; writing book reviews; visiting the library; or bringing in a book from home to share with the class, they will receive a stamp on their card. Each half term, stamps are collected, and winning children receive a certificate and reward. It has been fantastic to see so many children taking part in this already! Please support your child/ren by discussing books at home and reading with them regularly.
