Computing
Computing is not about computers anymore. It is about living.
Nicholas Negroponte
Why computing?
Computing is vital for all children, as it forms the core of every modern home and is crucial for their lifelong journey. As digital natives, students at RPS must be proficient in using and expressing themselves, as well as developing their ideas through information and communication technology, to a standard that prepares them for the future workplace and active engagement in a digital world. We aim to nurture students who are adept at utilising information technology to create programs, systems, and various content, while also fostering essential behaviours that will enable them to stay safe online.
Computing intent
An RPS child will recognise how computers and technology can change the lives of people. Children will develop their knowledge of computer science through algorithms and coding and their digital literacy of how to use a computer and information technology by learning how computers work. Children will learn the significance of staying safe when engaging with our digital world.
Key computing knowledge and skills
The computing curriculum develops knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Digital Literacy
- Computational Thinking
- E-Safety
- Computer & Hardware
- Coding
- Cross-curricular application
How computing is taught
Computing is a very practical subject, with the majority of lessons involving children problem solving with technology. However, there are many sessions where we work 'off line' and the children use more traditional resources to produce outcomes.
